United States Attorney Johnny Sutton announced that Felipe Evaristo Cardenas, 30, of El Paso, Texas, was sentenced today to 70 months in federal prison for possession of child pornography.
In addition to the prison term, United States District Judge Kathleen Cardone ordered that Cardenas pay a $1,000 fine and be placed under supervised release for a period of ten years after completing his prison term.
On August 5, 2005, FBI agents executed a search at Cardenas’ residence. At the time, authorities discovered child pornography on both the defendant’s desktop and laptop computers as well as several compact disks. The media contained between 300 and 600 images depicting child pornography, many of which matched those in the FBI’s Child Victim Identification Program database. Cardenas pled guilty to the charge on October 28, 2005.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, El Paso Division and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney J. Brandy Gardes.
