EL PASO BANK ROBBER NETS 15 YEAR FEDERAL PRISON SENTENCE

United States Attorney Johnny Sutton announced that Esteban Trujillo, 49, of El Paso, Texas, was sentenced today to 15 years in federal prison for the robbery of the One Source Federal Credit Union on August 19, 2005.

On November 4, 2005, Trujillo pleaded guilty to robbing the El Paso financial institution. Trujillo, admittedly, walked into the credit union (located at 8870 Gazelle Drive), produced a gun and demanded money from the credit union's tellers. After collecting the money, the defendant fled the scene. Trujillo, while attempting to carjack a nearby vehicle, was apprehended by three individuals – a bank customer, an off-duty El Paso County Sheriff's Deputy and a Fort Bliss soldier.

The 15-year prison term handed down by United States District Judge David Briones also reflected relevant conduct including Trujillo’s admission of robbing the El Paso Bell Federal Credit Union, 8870 Gazelle Drive, on August 19, 2004. Judge Briones also ordered Trujillo to pay $43,040 restitution–the proceeds he collected as a result of the El Paso Bell Federal Credit Union robbery.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, El Paso Division, together with the El Paso Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney J. Brandy Gardes.
