United States Attorney Johnny Sutton announced that 41-year-old Glen Allen Swanson was sentenced to eight years in federal prison for robbing an El Paso bank in January of this year.
In addition to the prison term, U.S. District Judge Philip Martinez on Tuesday ordered that Swanson pay $7,000 restitution to Chase Bank and be placed under supervised release for a period of three years after completing his prison term.
On April 16, 2007, Swanson pleaded guilty to one count of Bank Robbery. In pleading guilty, Swanson admitted to approaching a bank teller at Chase Bank on January 27, 2007, telling him he had a bomb and demanding money. The bank teller complied with Swanson's demand by emptying the cash drawer. Swanson fled the bank with $7,000.00 and entered Mexico. Mexican law enforcement authorities apprehended Swanson two weeks following the commission of the bank robbery.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Laura Gregory prosecuted this case on behalf of the Government.
