EL PASO MAN SENTENCED FOR BANK ROBBERY

United States Attorney Johnny Sutton announced today that in El Paso, Luis Fernando Aguirre, age 40, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge David Briones to 96 months in the Bureau of Prisons after pleading guilty to robbing Bank of America on February 12, 2007. Judge Briones also ordered the defendant to pay $5,600.00 restitution to Bank of America and to be placed on three (3) years supervised release following the completion of his prison term.

On February 12, 2007, Aguirre approached a bank teller at Bank of America and demanded money. Aguirre kept his hand under his shirt, gesturing as if he had a gun and repeatedly threatened the teller that he had a gun. The bank teller complied with his demand by emptying her cash drawer. Aguirre fled the bank with $9,500.00.

The case was investigated by Federal Bureau of Investigation together with the El Paso Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Laura Gregory prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.
