El Paso Man Sentenced to Federal Prison in Connection with Kidnapping of 15-Year-Old Girl

John E. Murphy, Acting U.S. Attorney, announced that in El Paso this afternoon, 21-year-old Julio Adrian Martinez was sentenced to 60 months in federal prison in connection with the kidnapping of a 15-year-old Vinton, Texas, girl on September 23, 2008.

In addition to the prison term, United States District Judge Kathleen Cardone ordered that Martinez register as a sex offender and be placed under supervised release for a period of ten years after completing his prison term. On March 3, 2009, Martinez pleaded guilty to one count of engaging in illicit sexual conduct in a foreign place.

According to court documents, on September 23, 2008, El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a kidnapping complaint in Vinton. The resulting investigation revealed that Martinez kidnapped his girlfriend in Vinton, and traveled to a residence in Juarez, Mexico, where he had sexual intercourse with his victim.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation together with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney J. Brandy Gardes prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.
