November 28, 2007 Civilian arrested for assault The FBI’s Safe Streets Gang Task Force arrested Jermaine Johnnie Knowles today for assault on a federal officer. Knowles, 20, was arrested without incident at his home in the 5000 block of Hank Aaron Drive , El Paso , Texas . Knowles was indicted November 14, 2007 , on one count of 18 U.S.C. 111, assaulting a federal officer. The indictment alleges that in May 2007 Knowles attempted to hit a military police officer with a vehicle while at Ft. Bliss . Knowles, now a civilian, was entering the post when the incident occurred. This case was investigated by the FBI, the U.S. Army Criminal Investigative Division and Military Police Investigations-Ft. Bliss, and El Paso Police Department. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Bill Lewis. An indictment is a formal accusation of criminal conduct, not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until convicted through due process of law.
